The Cake Place

Eleven years ago, Melissa’s journey began simply—as a mom making cakes for her daughter’s Varsity and AAU teams. With no formal training, she leaned on the Food Network and a lot of late-night practice to turn a hobby into a full-time passion. Today, she is still driven by that same “middle-of-the-night” creativity, focusing on creating edible works of art that taste just as good as they look.

Now in her 9th year at the Chocolate Ball, Melissa is deeply grateful for the opportunities her craft has provided. From being a finalist on Food Network’s Cake Wars to creating commemorative pieces for the Erie Canal’s Bicentennial, Make-A-Wish, Golisano Children’s Hospital and Letchworth State Park, she views every cake as a way to connect with her community.

For Melissa, the most rewarding part of her work is the chance to give back. Whether she is donating time and desserts or serving as an Icing Smiles baker to create “dream cakes” for children facing critical illnesses, her goal remains the same: to bring a little extra sweetness to life’s most important moments.
