A portion of the proceeds from the Keuka Lake Gravel Classic (KLGC) will be donated to Empowering People’s Independence (EPI). EPI provides support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, epilepsy and traumatic brain injuries. Last year’s event raised more than $3,000 in support of EPI’s mission, and the KLGC looks forward to building on that impact in 2026.

The connection with EPI began in 2022 when Chad & Heather Zimar’s (ride organizers) daughter received a college scholarship through EPI’s scholarship program for high school seniors who have epilepsy . Through that experience, they were introduced to a caring and dedicated community, led by Jeff Sinsebox. It marked the first time since their daughter’s epilepsy diagnosis that they felt truly supported by a network that was knowledgeable, resourceful, and compassionate.

In 2025, the KLGC made a deliberate effort to expand its fundraising and focus on a cause meaningful to both the Zimar family as well as the broader community, and they immediately thought of EPI. In addition to the Nugget ride fundraiser, the organizers introduced a “purple plant sale” in which all proceeds go to EPI. This year, they be adding a face painting station to help raise funds for EPI.
